EVs are here to stay, they’re fast, good looking and have the same range as most ICE powered cars. However, despite their popularity, there are still some stupid assumptions made about the electric powered vehicles. People are slowly coming around to the thought of plugging their cars in, so it’s only right we debunk these myths!
You can’t take an electric vehicle into a car wash
There are still people who don’t believe you can take your electric powered car through a car wash. To an extent you can understand, high pressure water being forced into every orifice could cause some issues. But do they also assume you can’t drive an EV in the rain then? EVs are made to the same high standards as any petrol/diesel car meaning they can withstand any wet conditions you can throw at them.
Petrol and diesel cars perform better
To produce power in a petrol or diesel car, fuel and oxygen must be combusted in the engine which in turn powers the wheels and propels you forwards. While it may seem pretty instant to us, plant your foot in an EV and feel the difference! Torque is instantly available in EVs, this allows the likes of Tesla’s Model S to reach 60mph in 2.5 seconds. The Nissan Leaf for example reaches 60 in 7.4 seconds, this may seem slow for an electric vehicle but when compared to its petrol-powered rivals it’s blisteringly quick!
There aren’t enough charging points in the UK
Everyone’s first argument when you suggest an EV is to do with range anxiety. When you tell them that an EV’s range is often the same as a petrol vehicle they seem surprised and they as where they can charge them. There are nearly 17000 charging points across the UK, this is rising rapidly too. 96% of motorway service stations have charging points too. This makes range anxiety a thing of the past, just plug in while you stop for a toilet break and a bite to eat and you’ll be greeted by plenty of miles to miles to finish your journey!
EV’s are for the future
With ever tightening restrictions for ICE powered vehicles, EV’s and hybrid vehicles are becoming more and more tempting. Gone are the days of 100 miles of range, they genuinely present a great option for drivers. There are around 40,000 EV’s on the roads currently, this shows plenty of people are ready to make the switch!
