The biggest cricketing spectacle is upon us, The Indian Premier Leagues is set to start this March, and no one can wait for the premier T20 tournament to start.
The IPL this year holds special meaning to various players and International teams, as because of the T20 world cup they would be monitoring their players very closely, and a player’s confidence can be made or broken in a tournament like this.
One of the most exciting teams in this year’s IPL is Delhi Capitals, they have a great team with a good Indian core and a mixture of experienced and young players. One of the most exciting players in the Delhi Capitals Lineup is Prithvi shaw. According to the IPL Schedule, the Delhi Capitals are set to start their IPL journey on the 30th of March against Kings XI Punjab and the most important thing to see in that match would be, who opens for the Delhi Capitals.
Last time around Delhi had Shikhar and Prithvi to open the batting and it was an almost set combination of left and right-handed batsman, this time around Delhi has yet another experienced Indian player in the mix Ajinkya Rahane, Rahane is one of the best Indian batsmen and is the vice-captain of the Indian test team. Rahane has always opened for the teams he has played for in the IPL and although he has the capability to bat lower down the order, his best innings have come at the top of the order.
So this time around, it would be interesting to see who the Delhi Capitals open with. Last year the IPL Points Table showed that the combination of Prithvi and Dhawan at the top worked as they finished the group stages quite comfortably. And even this year it seems like the Delhi Capitals should go with the same combination, Shikhar and Shaw should open the batting and Rahane should get the No.4 spot with Iyer coming in at 3. What this would do, would give Prithvi Shaw confidence and would help him play his normal striking cricket at the top of the order.
Many top-order batsmen have suffered when they have been told to move to a lower batting position, but Ajinkya Rahane has played at that position a fair bit and has the class and temperament to succeed in that position. Rahane coming in at No.4 will also help the relatively young middle order of Delhi and if Shikhar gets out early, Rahane can be the anchor around whom all the young guns from Delhi can play.
Shikhar will open the innings for Delhi that is a surety and with him, Shaw should be the one opening the innings and playing his natural game, whereas Rahane should come in at the middle order and guide the ever so exciting young guns of Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals have a problem on their hand as to who should open the innings, but this is a good problem to have as they have 3 legit openers who can easily replace one another on a rainy day.
Whatever their batting line-up be Delhi Capitals have a really strong squad this time around and it would come as no surprise if they reach the knockout stages once again.
