When you think about people sending parcels, you’ll probably think of those Amazon and eBay packages, clothes, foodstuffs and even the odd plant or two.
However, we’ve discovered that, even with all of the rules and regulations surrounding certain items (e.g. batteries, toxic products and weapons), you can still send a number of bizarre things around the world – legally.
So, if you want to take your sending a parcel skills to the next level, here are some of the things you might want to consider shipping to your loved ones:
- Live Bees
Who would want these, right?
Well, actually, one of the problems if you want to keep bees is being able to find a reputable seller in your local area. Therefore, many parcel services do allow you to send bees through the mail. You just need to ensure the insects are comfortable and have ample air, and you may have to pay some additional charges.
Queen bees are a whole different ballgame, though. These majestic creatures have to be sent via air and will also need to have 8 honey bees with them to attend their every need.
- A Potato
If you hate wrapping up parcels but want to put a smile on someone’s face, why not send a potato with a stamp on it? You could even write your message on the skin so it’s like a modern-day postcard.
In fact, one guy has cottoned on to this idea and makes $10,000 a month shipping potatoes to people. This ingenious idea sees people using potatoes as wedding invites, thank you cards and personalized messages.
Plus, if your recipient gets a little peckish they can simply peel the potato and cook it! Everyone’s a winner.
Another item you can do this with is the humble coconut.
- Scorpions
If you didn’t like someone, this could be the perfect thing to send through the mail to them. However, even though you are permitted to send live scorpions through courier services, you can only do so if they’re going to be used for medical purposes or to produce anti-venom.
- Live Chicks
Slightly less sinister than the aforementioned mail item, live chicks could be the perfect heart-warming gift for friends and loved ones. Even day-old chicks can have everything they need to survive in the mail for several days while they travel to their new home.
One company, McMurray Hatchery, sends out approximately 200,000 chicks in the days and months leading up to Easter. They simply ensure they’ve got the yoke of the egg they hatched in as they can survive on this for several days as it’s full of essential nutrients.
So, next time you consider sending your friend a jumper or your mom at thank you card in the post – consider switching these bog-standard items out for something a little more intriguing.
