The Best Way to Remove Press On Nails

So, it’s about that time. You’ve had your beautiful press-on nails for long enough and it’s time to switch them out for this cute new set that just came in the mail yesterday.

Or, you had your press-on set for a special event and now that it’s over, you have to go back to your natural nails for work.

Even if you lost a press-on nail somewhere while you were out and about and know that it’s gone forever, there are many reasons you may need to remove that set of press-on nails ASAP. But how can you go about doing that?

Here is the best way to easily, quickly, and painlessly remove press-on nails.

Be Careful

Before we discuss the best way to remove those press-on nails, we have to give you this disclaimer. You have to be gentle and take care when removing your press-on nails so you don’t damage your natural nails underneath.

If you needed more reason, carefully removing your press-on nails will keep them in good shape, meaning you can reuse them later!

Now, without further ado, the best removal techniques.

Warm Soapy Water Soak

This is the easiest way to make sure you remove those press-on nails without any damage to your natural nails underneath.

Luckily, this one is exactly as easy as it sounds. Get a bowl or water basin and fill it with warm water, adding a little bit of soap as it fills. It’s important that the water is warm, and that will make it more effective in breaking down the glue on your nails. Go ahead and give it a little swish using your fingers to make sure the soap is well-incorporated into the water.

Now, all you have to do is soak your hands in that warm soapy water for around 20 minutes. Set a timer and take this free time to listen to some music or one of your favorite podcast episodes.

Once your timer goes off, remove your hands from the water and gently pull the press-on nail off. This should be done easily, preventing any damage to either type of nail.

Once all of the nails are off, dry them off thoroughly and store them in a safe place for future usage.

Acetone Soak

If that warm soapy water thing just isn’t going to cut it, it may be time to take a more aggressive route.

As you may know from going to the nail salon, acetone is used to remove both fake nails and nail polish. This method works the same for your at-home press-on nails as well.

Ideally, you should try doing this method with warm acetone because, as we said earlier, the heat can help to loosen that glue. Once you have your acetone prepped, just soak your fingers in a shallow bowl full of that warm acetone for about five to ten minutes.

At that point, the press-on nails should be very easy to pull off, and some may even fall off into the bowl without your assistance.

Proper Storage

With either of these methods, you are going to want to use a cotton ball and some acetone to scrub away any residual nail glue that might be sticking to your press-on nail before storing them for further use.

The Process Should Be Easy

Removing your press-on nails should be a very easy and painless process, resulting in no damage to your press-on nail or your natural nail. This is one of the best things about press-on nails, since not only can you avoid damaging your nails, but you can resume the same nail set, too.
