Toilets in the home are our everyday need. Sooner or later, you will need to replace the toilet in the house for many reasons. It could be many, perhaps, it is broken or cracked, or it is consuming a lot of water. You may consider replacing it if it is simply leaking the water. Here is a guide to help you with the replacement of the toilet in the shortest possible time.
Removing the old toilet
When you think of replacing the old toilet with the new one, your action should start with removing the old toilet. To make the process easy, you should consider removing the tank first and bowl next.
Empty water supply
Empty water from the tank completely by flushing it out. Any excess water left out there should be cleared with the help of the sponge. You should also disconnect water supply lines from the tank.
Remove tank
You should now unscrew the tank from the bowel. Do this job may prone the tank to cracks so, you should always do it carefully wearing gloves.
Remove bowl
Here is the toughest part of removing the toilet in the house. You have to unscrew the bowl, the heavy part of the toilet. You can use water solidifier to keep away from the remaining water that is sloshing out. Unscrew the bowl from the floor and set it aside in the garbage bag.
Remove wax ring
This is the only job left out to complete the process of removing the old toilet. You should use a rag to swear gases and prevent anything from falling into the drain. Take a knife to remove the excess flange. Now, you have to make necessary repairs to the flange as needed. To make the job simple, you can consider replacing the entire flange. Make sure the flange you are replacing is a little higher than the height of the finished floor.
Install new toilet.
The job of installing a new toilet begins fixing closet bolts in the slots of the flange. If your flange has washer nuts, tighten them down for easy alignment of the toilet when sitting in place.
Fix wax ring
Now turn the new toilet upside down and fix the wax ring. Soften the ring by running it under the water and press it on the toilet outlet.
Place toilet bowl
Remove rag from the drain and place the bowl over new closet bolts carefully. Place it straight on the flange to ensure it is not tilted any more. This will prevent the wax ring from getting damaged. While you place the bowl, ensure its square with the wall.
Secure toilet
Secure the Toilet Reviewer toilet with the cap bases, washers and nuts to closet bolts. Ensure the nuts are firm in place but tightening it too much would crack the bowl.
Tank installation preparation
Tank installation is not a thought game like many think off. They have valve assembly already installed in so; you have to flip the tank and install with the bolts that will help to hold it to bowl. The bolts should slip into slots of the tank and install the rubber gasket to the base.
Place the tank above the bowl
Fix the tank above the bowl and tighten the nuts on bolts. Firm them with the help of the wrench. Be careful not to over tighten the nuts; it may end up in cracking the toilet.
Water supply
You are now done with the installation of the toilet. Now, you should hook the water supply and turn the water on. Check for any leaks around the supply line and gasket base. If the leaks are found, tighten the bolts to stop them. If it continues further, take the tank back and check if the gasket is installed correctly. Flush the toilet multiple times and check for the leaks, if found, realise that nuts on the bowl are too tight, wax you have placed at the bottom is not creating a tight seal. You have to take the bowl off and reinstall it.
