Seems suddenly strange to ‘think of the thought’ how internet has swept the earth in the last few years. No wonder that its short listed for the Nobel Prize. The biggest invention of the human race.
I was reading this new novel (after indirectly recommended by a colleague ) by Kunal Basu “The Japanese Wife” where two pen friends one from India and the other (woman) from Japan marry for twenty years (read it if you like to enjoy a beautiful love story!). Novels are the best imagination provokers. Better than the videos that we see everyday. Videos provoke thought, novels provoke imagination.
In 2001, when I joined my B Tech @ NIT (oh, it was REC at that time) Jaipur, I used to wait every month for the post man to deliver my most precious paper – the money order of Rs 1200 from my dad! And every money order would fetch a ‘tip’ to the post man. Both happy 😛
Few months later if I remember correctly, I ‘signed up’ my first email id – Yahooo !! (which I am still using. First Love !)
Cell phones didn’t turn up fully till my last year. For one year before my last, we had our batch phone booth in room 101 (the only guy with a reliance cell phone that had number with STD code like a landline!)
No internet in the hostels (we do not have any thing worth to mention actually :P) , No Wikipedia (I would give Nobel Prize to Wikipedia originators Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger if I can…), nothing as such and as good as we have now. No money too to afford more than two hrs in a net cafe !
In my third year again, one of my seniors in told me once how nice it is to sit and write a letter in your own hand writing to someone you love. He said it goes straight to the heart and it stays there. How true it is ! I wanted to remember this and try if at least once. Fortunately and unfortunately both, I did try that twice so far (and the first of this is to my mom on her birthday , “the best gift You gave so far” – she replied in her own hand writing !!!! , and my dad too (being jealous 😛 that I wrote to my mom only ) added his own pages to the letter – Beautiful).
Once I got a small greeting from a six year old niece ! I gave her a little gift when I met her, she wanted to thank and started drawing something on a piece of paper. Within no time she finished a “Thank You” greeting card (which just looks like the pic below). How sweet it was ! Even now, when I recollect the the surprise on my face after she handed that – spellbound !
Nice thoughts aren’t they. Try it out, all of you, whenever it is fine for you , to whoever it is . It can be a life long memorable thing. I do see lot of updates these days on Facebook and orkut mentioning “This is one of the most memorable day” etc. I donno how really long the se will be remembered but the letter , you sure will !
How things have changed in a very short span! Not for bad though. Good that things have changed and we now have access to excellent amount of information all around within the click of a mouse. It would just be wonderful if we can balance the beauty of our old ways with the trends of the new processes to make a world of our own !!!
I leave you all for a wonderful time with this amazing video , related to what I have been writing. And you will like it!
