GoUNESCO is a travel project with an objective to improve awareness of our heritage, culture and natural history by encouraging travel to UNESCO world heritage sites (WHS) across the world.
It is designed as a fun travel challenge – you earn points with every visit to a world heritage site and compete with other travelers from around the world to try and win the challenge. There are different types of challenge available to compete in – annual country challenges where you have to visit all the WHS in a country in one calendar year and The Epic Challenge where you aim to visit all the 962 WHS in the world! Of course, these challenges are not easy, but with careful planning, one can definitely complete and even win them. The GoUNESCO challenge started in 2012 with just the India challenge. This challenge included all the 29 WHS in India and Jai Bharathi, an architect from Hyderabad managed to visit every single site to win the first challenge! This year, there is an option to create your own challenge as well.
Like Jai Bharathi, 50 other people from different parts of India started traveling because of GoUNESCO last year. This year, there are more than 100 from all around the world already traveling. If you plan to travel this year, it might be a great idea to set a goal of visiting places you have not been to yet, or experience again the places you have been to. Make GoUNESCO your travel plan for this year and travel to discover heritage and nature.
