For most of us, travelling by private jet isn’t something we can afford to do all of the time. However, in recent years, the cost of hiring one, particularly for business travellers, has become a lot more attainable.
Empty leg seats and sharing the cost with other local businesses are just two of the ways private jet travel can be an affordable option. The question is, if you can afford it, what can you expect when you first travel by private jet for business?
Booking your private jet
When booking a private jet charter through a broker, you need to do it as far in advance as you can. That is, unless you’re looking to save money on empty leg seats. These tend to be more of a “last minute” option, so it’s difficult to book them in advance.
You’ll generally need to either enquire about a booking online, or by giving the company a call. After talking through your requirements, you’ll be provided a quote and you can then secure your booking.
Parking and luggage
Traveling by private jet is a little different to catching a commercial flight. This means, there are slightly different parking and luggage requirements.
When arriving at the airport, you’ll typically need to park right by the private jet. This allows you to load your luggage onto the plane quickly and easily. Just remember to put the handbrake on to ensure your car doesn’t roll into the aircraft (it’s surprising how many times this actually happens).
Like commercial flights, private jets do have luggage restrictions. So, you’ll need to find these out before you arrive. If you’re travelling alone, weight restrictions won’t typically be a problem. However, it could be an issue if there’s a small group travelling together.
Understanding security
You’ll usually submit your passport details to the private jet charter company in advance. This means your details will be authorised prior to you traveling. You will still need to undergo a security check when you arrive, but you’ll only be in a queue of just a few more people, meaning it’s much quicker than it would be with a commercial flight.
Is private jet charter safe?
One of the main concerns people have when flying on a private jet for the first time is whether or not it’s safe. All private jet companies are fully licensed and experienced, so they are just as safe as flying on a commercial flight. With private jet chartering, you get the full benefits of flying in the luxury of a private jet, without the extremely high cost of buying one.
As you can see, flying by private jet for the first time is fairly straightforward. It’s a little different to catching a regular flight, but it’s much more convenient and quicker.
