Getting out and trying something new is always worth planning once a new year begins. Furthermore, after many people spent years adapting to spending more time inside, 2023 seems like the ideal year to try something more adventurous. From adrenaline-filled excursions to vigorous hikes, now is the perfect time to plan outdoor fun.
Check out this list if you’re looking for vacation or getaway ideas that include a little adventure.
Wakeboarding Or Water Skiing
Know someone with a boat? If you do, 2023 could be the year to take advantage of boating and all that comes with it. Or, consider renting a boat with some of your friends for a new adventure. Wakeboarding and waterskiing are two activities you can do outside. While they take a bit of time to learn, many active adults can figure out how to get up on skis or a board quickly.
Be careful not to get too close to the electric boat motors when you’re in the water. Other than that, enjoy the water and try something new.
Base Jumping Or Skydiving
When it comes to outdoor adventures, there’s a wide range of adrenaline levels. If you’re seeking adrenaline, base jumping, skydiving, or even bungee jumping are all intense activities to try. Maybe you just want to get a bit of a rush while being pulled behind a motorboat. Or, perhaps, you’re looking for a more thrill-seeking experience that you’ll never forget.
However, while these activities might be scary fun, especially if you’re scared of heights, you don’t have to have any specific training to get started. Instead, you can seek out a course in your area with an instructor to go along with you.
Snowboarding Or Skiing
Similar to wakeboarding and waterskiing, snowboarding and skiing are perfect outdoor activities. But, instead of standing up on the water, you’ll be cruising down a snowy hill. Even if you live in a warmer climate, chances are there’s a ski hill within driving distance of your area. If not, consider planning a trip to a mountain resort this winter.
Ziplining
Suppose you want an outdoor activity that’s less intense than skydiving but more adventurous than hiking. In that case, ziplining is right in that middle spot. Many wilderness areas have a zipline experience. You’ll probably have to pay a little money to go, but it’s worth it when you’re soaring above the trees.
Stand-Up Paddleboarding
If you want to enjoy an outdoor adventure without getting too much of a workout, stand-up paddle boarding might be just your speed. While it takes a bit of practice and balance to stand up on the board, you can also enjoy paddling around the lake or pond on your knees. You can test your strength and agility by doing some yoga moves on your paddleboard as you hone your skills.
Hiking In A National Park
Looking to try something outdoorsy that’s less intense? Hiking a national park or another wilderness area near you is great exercise with the added benefit of beautiful scenery. You Can choose the hike based on your experience and activity levels, and many hikes are perfect for families or groups of friends.
So, if it’s been a while since you’ve gone hiking, why not get outdoors more this year? It’s great exercise, but you can also take the hike at your own pace. Who knows what you might see? Maybe some elk or an eagle!
