The mere idea of running even one business is enough to send anyone into a stress-filled panic attack. Shady Elhami has unlocked the keys to running several successful businesses, without completely ripping his hair out.
How does he do it?
Sit down and take some notes as Shady explains his recipe for success. This may not be for everyone, and definitely not for the faint of heart. Any article you find on Google can give you the ten steps to being a successful business owner, but there’s a lot more to it than that. Dig down deep; past refining ideas, gauging the market, and assessing finances.
Keep Busy
You don’t become the owner of several businesses without breaking a bit of a sweat, metaphorically and literally. When you budget your time thoughtfully, you may have more opportunities than you think to make some magic happen. Idle hands, as they say. You won’t be able to make great accomplishments by spending your down-time binging another series; harsh but true.
Be a Self-Motivated Self-Starter
Shady Elhami didn’t get where he is today without being able to start and see projects through without being able to self-motivate, and neither will you. Be willing to pull yourself out of bed in the morning without hitting snooze, reach out and make connections, and take risks for significant gains.
Be a Leader
The only way to run even one successful business, let alone more than one, you need to be an effective leader. Understanding the importance of communication, team building, and setting goals are critical parts of being an effective leader.
Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help
No one is truly self-made. Asking for help and having someone to lean on for ideas and support is not only okay, but it’s also essential—Shady Elhami shares ownership of several of his businesses with his brother, Maged Elhami, along with working for their family business. Never be afraid to have a business partner; you never have to do anything alone for it to be considered a real success.
Dream Big
Mediocre ideas and ground-floor ideas won’t get you the ceiling-breaking success you want. Think about what you want to accomplish and add ten. Aim high, and even if you don’t accomplish everything, you’ve done more than you would have before.
Don’t Be Afraid of Failure
Life is all about learning, and without failure, we will never truly know success. The business world leaves a lot of room for failure. Your first, fourth, and even tenth business venture may not work. The important thing is to remain cautiously optimistic and keep moving forward.
Work Hard but Don’t Burn the Candle at Both Ends
You can’t expect to have a clear head for decision-making if your life revolves only around one thing and doesn’t leave room for sleep, hobbies, and general self-care. Being a hard worker doesn’t mean you have to run yourself ragged. You can’t lead and give others your best if you have nothing left.
