These days, I am doing only one thing. Following two gentleman. Sachin and Harsha Bhogle (and hence the title of this post).
Harsha in of the IPL matches was talking about how those Indian first class cricket players are getting opportunities which otherwise they might not have even thought of at an international arena. And then he says, ‘That’s democratization of Cricket’.
Whether we want to go in to the discussion of how a democratic form (of providing equal opportunities to all) would go along with a captilistic model of market (making money with IPL , and hence with Cricket), his comments are indeed identifying the ‘original’ objective of IPL which Lalit Modi and other big heads unilaterally took to ‘sell’ to the public.
IPL II was not good for the Indian domestic players (at least from the statistics that I can see from). Much of this might be accorded due to the away from the home conditions (though, SA was the most neared in terms of play environment to Indian type). This might also take weight given the definite improvement in the performance of many of the Indian players in IPL III. And I am looking forward for much more match winning exhibitions. (Just now was very impressed with the play of Tirupati Ambatti Rayudu for Mumbai Indians, his Man of the Match award and his humbleness !).
Gambhir’s comments about the Rajasthan Royal’s teams were first not in good spirits of the game, and secondly wrong in terms of stats too !
Fiaz Fazal was good. Naman Ojha has been the best of the batsmen for the RR team as well as other set of bowlers !
Manish Pandey for RC Bangalore has always been good, and Vinay Kumar has already been shortlisted for the World Cup T20 Indian Team !
Kolkata has good bunch of domestic players too (and some old Indian players who are trying hard for thier rejuvenation ! :P. I am talking of Murali Karthik, Ishant Sharma and Ajit Agarkar, whom do you thought ? :P)
Delhi got good bowlers (Batting has little scope in this team for domestic cricket), so is Punjab and Deccan Chargers.
The definite stand outs are from Chennai and Mumbai Indians. Oh whaddaplay from them. Saurabh Tiwari (he must be the twin brother of Dhoni!), Shikhar Dhawan, Satish, Rayudu, M Vijay, Jakati and all others. Cheers and Congratulations to all of them.
The very feeling of taking part at par with the best of the players from all around the world and under the guidance of some of the most experienced players and coaches would itself be a bright boon for the careers of all the youngsters.
And the Big Man (or now a days, we should just use only the word God!) Sachin on top of them all. (I just wanted to mention the name 🙂 )
Hope you all are enjoying the thrill of the game to the fullest.
