It’s served in almost every restaurant in Boston, mde with clams, onions, cream and potatoes and thickened with oyster crackers. Of course, if you want to try the most iconic and historic version in the city – you should head to Union Oyster House. They have been serving up their signature recipe since 1826 – so you know it’s gotta be good.
Lobster Rolls
Ah, lobster rolls. A heaping serving of sweet, tender lobster meat seasoned in mayo or warm butter, served on a soft crusty roll. It’s a wonderfully simple and incredibly delicious meal that you must try on your visit to Boston. The best place to eat them is Neptune Oyster Bar in the North End. Oysters
Boston is a great place to dine on fresh and delicious oysters plucked from the sea. Try the wonderfully fresh ones at Island Creek Oyster Bar, sourced from the coastal towns of Plymouth, Barnstable, Duxbury and Wellfleet.
Baked Beans
Boston isn’t known as “Beantown” for no reason. The name comes from these delicious, hearty slow-cooked beans that are a popular side dish. They aren’t actually baked – they are stewed, sweetened with molasses or syrup and served with salt pork or bacon. The smoky, delicious beans are traditionally served in a small clay crockpot with buttered brown bread and you’ll find them at nearly every local restaurant.
Boston Cream Pie
When it comes to finishing off your dinner with a delicious dessert, there’s nothing more iconic than the pie named after the city itself. Boston Cream Pie was first created at the Omni Parker House Hotel, by the French chef Augustine Francois Anezin. It is a chocolate cream pie, with two rounds of sponge cake within bathed in custard, doused in rum syrup and finished with chocolate fondant.
Cannoli
Thanks to a large Italian immigrant population in Boston, there is a wonderful culture of delicious Italian food. One of the local faves is cannoli – delicious pastry and cream tubes in flavors such as raspberry, tiramisu, chocolate and pistachio.
