You could excuse our Canuck friends for being just a bit skeptical that it is on the way given the winter they just suffered through, but within the next month or two, summer will again be in full swing north of the border.
Plan on travelling there this season? Below, we’ll share a few ideas so you can make the most of this short but sweet time to be in Canada.
1) Camp in the Rockies
Although it can be a risky venture if you try to do this during the May Long Weekend (somehow, people are unlucky at this time, as it almost always rains – or snows), camping is one of the tried and true ways to welcome summer in Canada.
With virtually limitless wilderness, there are no shortage of places to connect with nature in this country, but if you want to experience the best spaces it has to offer, it would be hard to find a better place than the Canadian Rockies.
With soaring peaks, dazzling lakes, and engaging trails, you’ll have plenty to do during the day. By night, get the campfire roaring to keep warm on the still chilly early summer nights, tell stories, and cook hot dogs until you feel like retiring for the night.
If you wake up the next morning to inclement weather, all is not lost. With the advent of mobile internet, there are entertainment options aplenty to keep you occupied online. Internet gaming sites are among the most exciting, as they offer games like poker, blackjack, and a bewildering number of virtual slot games. 2) Go canoeing on a lake in cottage country
For some, taking to the water is the perfect way to kick off a summer filled with good times. Let’s be frank here – there are few outdoor activities more Canadian than canoeing.
From British Columbia to Ontario to Nova Scotia, the landscape outside the cities is studded with an uncountable number of lakes and rivers which are just begging to be explored.
Not experienced in the ways of canoeing? No worries – the J-stroke is easy to learn, and once you do, you’ll be set up for a season full of amazing experiences.
3) Hit the beach in the Maritimes
Canada is not a country known worldwide for its beaches, but that doesn’t stop locals from taking to their favourite strips of sand the second the thermometer creeps above 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).
While the water isn’t that warm in June, it still beckons swimmers for a quick dip on a hot day, no matter whether you’re in Christina Lake, BC or Cavendish Beach, PEI.
Armed with a parasol, a good book, and a sturdy beach chair, you’ll be sure to have a great day no matter where you are in this marvellous country.
