Comfort, style, and convenience are all considerations that you have to keep in mind when you’re picking your outfit and the accessories to go with them. Unless you are blessed to live in one of those few areas where it is almost always sunny, with comfortable temperatures, you are going to have to deal with the changing weather in every season. Let’s take a look at some things you can choose for each season of the year.
Winter
This can be tricky depending on where it is you live. The more urbanized the area that you call home, the more quickly the beautiful white blanket of snow that fell overnight is going to turn into a sloppy mess. Snowplows come to clear the streets and end up throwing a blockade across your driveway that turns into a solid wall of ice before you know it.
While trying to dig out of it all so that you can get your car out onto the newly cleared streets, style may take a backseat to other considerations. When you are standing knee-deep in a pile of snow, salt, and sand, those $200 fashion boots are going to take a beating that they are not meant to absorb.
What you’re going to want to do is put on layers of clothes to help you stay warm. Starting with the good hat that covers the crown of your head and your ears is extremely important. As is making sure your arms and hands are covered and protected from the cold weather.
Just looking at the thermometer may not help protect you from the dangerous condition known as frostbite because the wind will enhance that through an effect known as “wind chill.” According to the Mayo Clinic, the risk of frostbite increases when the temperature dips below 5°F (-15°C) and will affect the extremities first.
Spring
Just the name brings visions of blooming trees and flowers everywhere, but to get to those May blossoms, we have to get through the April showers. Going out and about on those days when it seems we live in an underwater world can make us more susceptible to catching colds and other illnesses. (It’s not the soaking that causes us to get sick, but rather the breeding ground the conditions make for viruses and such that do cause the illnesses).
Picking up a beautiful umbrella can help us fight off that soaking and can keep us in mind of the beautiful days that are just ahead. The ubiquitous black shields are functional, but one covered in brightly colored flowers in every color of the rainbow not only keeps us dry but basically tells the clouds, “you can rain on my parade, but you can’t dampen my spirit.”
Summer
Christmas may be “the most wonderful time of the year,” but if so, summer has to come in a close second. While most of us can’t pop over to the office in a swimsuit and flip-flops, we can add a little flair to our look.
Sunglasses are a great way to make a statement about who you are and how you’re feeling. While many think that wearing shades is just a way to keep sunlight from giving you a headache or damaging your eyes, they’d be wrong. Psychologists tell us that wearing the right ones can boost our confidence and other feelings related to positivity, perhaps even making us look more attractive to others in the process. Nowadays, you can get any style you want, from small rectangles to make you look more studious to the huge styles that seem to cover most of the face.
Fall
When summer starts to fade away, the nights start getting a little bit cooler and the days start getting a little bit shorter. The trees that gave the shade when we needed it in the hot summer sun start to change into an explosion of red, orange, and yellow.
This is the time of year that we need to go to the back of our closets and dig out the sweaters and jackets that we’re going to need. One great way to make a fashion statement is to choose a leather jacket, they’re not just for motorcycle gangs anymore. You can still get one reminiscent of Fonzie from Happy Days if you so choose, but bomber jackets and even floor-length dusters can tell anyone who sees you a little bit about what’s on the inside.
Every one of us is a complex set of thoughts, feelings, and emotions that make us an individual. The accessories we choose give us the ability to tell the world a little bit about ourselves in an instant.
