Hey there. My name is Annabel Strickland. I’m a mom to a cute toddler named Matthew and one of the authors at https://easytobemom.com/ — a go-to place for future moms and parents in search of handy advice. In this post, I will dwell upon helping your kids tap into their imagination.
A lot of parents hope that their kids will grow to be creative and talented. And I’m not an exception here either. Even if you’re not the most creative person yourself, be sure that there are relatively easy ways to help your kid naturally encourage and embrace their creative side.
I recently spoke to an early childhood specialist and an art teacher to discuss the significance of creativity in children’s lives. They provided some recommendations on how even the busiest parents can easily stimulate their kids to observe, explore, and make the most of their imagination.
So, if you’re looking to unlock and foster your child’s creativity, this post is for you. Enjoy reading.
- Find Beauty in the Process, Not the Result
Don’t get too concentrated on the final outcome when encouraging your kids to be creative. Let them make mistakes whenever they experiment or play. The beauty of creative thinking is in the process itself. Plus, this approach will additionally stimulate your kids to try again (and again, and again) whenever they (think that) they fail.
- Always Ask ‘Why’
Help your kids stay curious about the world for as long as possible. Make them notice the unusual things around them, encourage the ‘Why’ questions, and stimulate your child to find various types of answers to them. This strategy reveals the core meaning behind creativity: it’s really about wondering how things could be improved.
- Involve Humor
Having a great sense of humor means you’re already capable of looking at life from a variety of angles. Thus, make practicing creativity with your kid funny. Humor will encourage your little one to think outside the box and i.e. unleash their creative side.
- Provide a Structure
Children find blank pages challenging (don’t we all?). Therefore, show your kid a place to start, then let them proceed. For example, if you’re drawing together, start drawing, and then let them finish the details. That way, your kid will learn to get to the core of their ideas and pinpoint the best option out of many.
- Let Your Kids Feel Bored
According to the latest research, kids should be allowed to get bored so they can develop their inner ability to think creatively. So make sure you leave gaps in your child’s schedule instead of filling their time up with endless creativity-inducing activities. It may sound surprising, but occasionally going with the flow is a huge creativity-booster.
Cutting to the Chase: Creativity is Everywhere
To cut a long story short, if you want to raise your child to be their most creative self, you gotta show them that creativity is everywhere. To do that, help them see different viewpoints on one and the same subject matter, encourage their analytical skills, and motivate them to learn about the world as much (and as passionately) as possible.
