Tuscany is a region characterized by villages and breathtaking landscapes. But it has also beautiful places like Crete Senesi, Val d’Orcia, Chianti and Val d’Elsa.
In Tuscany between the hills and ravines there are various landscapes, vineyards, olive groves and cypresses kissed by the morning sun. This is the reason why you should choose one of the villas in tuscany with heated pool.
Without further ado, it is time to see the suggested itineraries in the Tuscan hills.
The Chianti hills
The name of the area immediately reminds us of the excellent red wine famous all over the globe that is produced here. The area is not very large but has many things to see. One of these is the Wine Museum located in Greve in Chianti.
Moving in a southerly direction you can see, along the road, the Castle of Ama, in Gaiole. This is one of the best wineries in the area that also houses a contemporary art collection. Continuing towards Siena, you can stop in the Chianti Sculpture Park where you can admire contemporary sculptures.
Crete Senesi
Crete Senesi are literally “senese clays” and it so called because of the distinctive grey colouration of the soil that gives the landscape an appearance often described as lunar. The area is in the south of Siena, surrounding Asciano that is rich in reliefs and calanques of gray clay. Between Siena and Asciano it is possible to admire a sculpture by Jean-Paul Philippe.
Furthermore, Asciano holds the secrets of Etruscan history in its Archaeological and Sacred Art Museum. Continuing the journey you can cross other hills to discover the villages of Vergelle and Monteroni d’Alba.
Val d’Orcia
Val d’Orcia rises between Siena and Grosseto. The landscape of this place has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004 and is made of cypresses, hills and red earth.
From Montalcino (which gives its name to the famous Brunello wine) you can head towards the Ask of the Black Madonna, the Podere Fiesole, to finally arrive in San Quirico d’Orcia.
Val di Chiana
A wonderful valley surrounded by three regions: Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria. In the area that belongs to Tuscany there are known places, such as Montepulciano, where the famous grapes are born, and Chianciano Terme, famous for its thermal springs.
But there are many other places to visit in this area: Lucignano, Civitella and Castiglion Fiorentino. We talked about wine, but Val di Chiana is also extra virgin olive oil and Chianina beef. By combining these three products, who knows if a great meal comes out!
Val d’Elsa
The Elsa river, which is one of the tributaries of the Arno, gives its name to the valley. He welcomes small towns like San Miniato, Poggibonsi, San Gimignano and Colle di Val d’Elsa.
A curiosity is that the ancient Via Francigena also passed through the Tuscan hills and saw many minor parishes, guard towers, castles, churches and noble residences (such as that of the Tattoli or that of the Collazzi) arise along its path. All this becomes, together with the Val d’Elsa, an enormous and precious historical, artistic and landscape heritage entrusted to us.
