24 Hours in Atlanta: Tips and Advice for a Fun-Filled Day

With its Southern charm and cosmopolitan vibe, Atlanta is a welcoming city that has an array of memorable attractions. Whether you’ve got a quick layover at the airport or are headed to this city as part of your research before a Atlanta move, you’ll find lots to enjoy here. To make getting around the city easier, you might want to try taking MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority), the area’s rail system. Try out this itinerary to have a fun-filled day in town!

Morning

Start your day with breakfast at The Flying Biscuit Cafe, an Atlanta institution. With several locations scattered throughout the city, it’s a perfect spot to grab biscuits, pancakes, sausage, omelets, and eggs Benedict, and breakfast is served all day. After fueling up for the day, head over to the World of Coca-Cola Museum to learn all you ever wanted to know (and more!) about this popular drink. Or, you could check out the Georgia Aquarium, an ideal spot to learn all about the local marine life.

Lunch

After brushing up on your knowledge of cola, head to lunch at the True Food Kitchen, a restaurant that has loads of healthy options and an abundance of fresh veggies. Afterward, soak up some of the histories of this locale with a visit to the Margaret Mitchell House, the former home of the author of Gone With the Wind. It’s part of the Atlanta History Center, and you can get an all-inclusive ticket that lets you visit both at a discounted rate. A tour of the Margaret Mitchell house takes about half an hour, and there is also a short introductory film you can watch prior to the tour if you wish. Once you’ve had your fill of history, stretch your legs with a relaxing stroll through the Atlanta Botanical Garden, located in the midtown area. First opened in 1976, the site has more than 30 acres of gardens, including a rock garden, a conifer garden, and a flower walk. The center is famous for its orchid collection, and you can also check out the outdoor kitchen and edible garden for more inspiration.

Dinner

After working up an appetite on your stroll, head to dinner at Canoe, an upscale restaurant serving New American food. Chefs here specialize in farm-to-table meals, and diners can relax at tables in a garden setting that overlooks the tranquil Chattahoochee River. Next, head out for a concert given by the Atlanta Symphony, a magnificent classical orchestra. Or, visit the SkyLounge and sip cocktails in the rooftop garden.

Late Night

If you get hungry late in the evening, you might want to grab a bite at Sublime Donuts, one of the best donut shops in town. If you’re hoping to dance the night away, check out Havana Club ATL, Tongue and Groove, MJQ Concourse, or the Gold Room.

We hope you create lots of happy memories during your stay in Atlanta!
