The mathematician’s favorite day is here: Pi Day! On March 14 or 3/14 of every year, math lovers around the globe celebrate the most iconic irrational number. The first three digits of pi are 3.14, which is the reason why it’s celebrated on the 14th of March. For more than 4,000 years, Pi has played an important role in many fields including engineering, telecommunications, medicine, architecture, biochemistry and so on. Celebrating Pi day shines a spotlight on its continued relevance and is an opportunity for children to learn more about math in a fun and exciting way. To honor Pi day, here are some fun activities for all ages.
- Bake and eat pies – A traditional activity during Pi day is baking, eating, and sharing pies. Baking pies is also a fun way to learn about the importance of math in daily life. You can also have a pie eating contest.
- Have a pi recitation contest – Memorize as many pi digits as you can and hold a pi recitation contest. The person who can recite the most digits will take home a pie.
