In 1876, Lubbock County was founded. It was named after signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, Tom Lubbock. Today, Lubbock has a population of about 253,000 people. It is one of Lubbock’s most popular attractions. The West Texas Walk of Fame is also a tribute to Holly, and a statue of him stands in the garden. Plaques dedicated to other Lubbock musicians surround the statue and are encompassed by impressive landscaping.
- The National Ranching Heritage Center
Fifty historic buildings dot the landscape of this 19 acre park. Some of them date back as far as the 1700’s! The park is home to sculptures, art exhibits, and photography all capturing the profession that Texas is know best for. It is a great way to learn the history of the settlers in Lubbock and how they lived off the land under the big blue Texas sky. The entire place makes you feel like you are stepping back in time for a bit.
- The Cactus Theater
Located on Buddy Holly Avenue sits the Cactus Theater in all it’s neon glory. It’s kind of like the Grand Ole Opry for Lubbock. The rising stars of Lubbock come here and give their best while being mentored on their talent. Don Caldwell purchased the Theater in 1933 to boost the entertainment industry in West Texas. This live performance theater showcases the best talents of West Texas, so be sure to catch a show while you are in town.
- The CapRock Winery
If you love wine, you have to visit the CapRock Winery while you are in town! Unrivaled by any other Texas winery, CapRock has been perfecting their wine experience for 30 years. The scenery is gorgeous and is perfect for doing a tasting with friends or spending the evening sipping a glass by their cozy fireplace. You can even tour the winery and see the beautiful vineyard that produces the best Texas wines.
