When you have already passed your CSM course and pave your way to becoming a Scrum Master, then it’s time to start doing everything you’ve learned and lead a mature scrum team! But the question is: How? Sure, you’ve read up on what you need to do and the responsibility it takes but it’s different when you actually implement it in real life!
So to help you build your team and have them create successful projects together with you, I’ll show you the four tips to create a good mature scrum team!
- Focus On People and Learn To Let Go
It’s easy to understand Scrum but implementing it can be quite difficult. This is because the Scrum Framework has three artifacts, five events, and three roles. While a leader may have time for the artifacts and events, they don’t focus much on the roles. Because of this, the Scrum won’t come to life. It’s important to focus on your team, delegate the roles, and allow them to grow. Through your team understanding their role, they’ll know what their responsibilities are to complete artifacts and events.
Furthermore, you should also learn to let go of the traditional leadership responsibilities and redefine what works for both you and your team. Apply different leadership styles and learn from the ever-changing trends to restructure your organization.
- Lead By Example
The Scrum values is what defines you as an excellent leader. You should have commitment, openness, respect, courage, and focus. Without any of these values, then your Scrum team won’t be able to come to life. If your team isn’t able to show this behavior in the workforce, it may be from staying in a political environment where their leader isn’t the right example. You won’t be able to let your team focus and grow if you do not follow these values yourself. Create the safe and open environment where you can have all these values flourish. Be a role model to your team and they will be inspired to deliver the best quality work.
- Avoid Any Shortcuts
Just like how children grow into adulthood, it is impossible to skip stages and go to the next stage immediately. Learn that just because you are a Scrum master doesn’t mean that you are already on the top and your team will immediately follow. Instead, begin as an Agile Coach before becoming a Scum Masters. Learn the five levels of maturity and do not skip anything. There aren’t any shortcuts into becoming an expert and excellent leader.
Furthermore, allow your team to mature with you as well. Create a setting where your team can both fail and learn quickly to allow projects to run smoothly.
- Grow Together
Instead of maturing alone or allowing just one or two members in your team to grow with you, your whole team should work together and grow in the same pace. If managers aren’t aligned and use different leadership styles, your team will become confused, with gaps in role-maturity. It can result to friction and misaligned expectations within your team. All leaders should create the environment where your team works and matures together and at the same pace. Support the whole Scrum team with no favoritism and do not let them feel small from organizational limitations. You can do this by asking your team what limitations they have that keeps them from making decisions.
Wrapping It Up
A mature scrum team should have an effective leader and csm certification can help. It’s your time to shine! You shouldn’t boss around and power trips but learn to work and grow together. As you continue to lead the team, you will learn that everyone is different and that there are different methods to implement for everyone to work as one.
