Here are 4 useful tips every couple should use for better wedding pictures.
Ask Your Guest to Put Their Phone Away
This is something that has evolved since the creation of cell phones and social media. This is probably the best tip to follow. Many photographers have had the shot lost or ruined of the bride walking down the aisle. Your friends and family think they are doing a good thing by capturing that moment, but they are doing more harm than good. Your photographer is in the best location to capture the moment and not interfere with the moment either. When your guests lean into the aisle, they can block the photographer and sometimes even the groom’s view! The focal point of your pictures should be you, not the phones and Ipads taking pictures of you.
Don’t Fake Your Emotion
Relax. Take in the moment for what it is. Let the photographer capture you in the moment. Try not to stage a moment. The best and most meaningful pictures are quietly captured. An artificial expression will clearly be shown if your photos. Enjoy yourself. Stay genuine and natural. You don’t have to smile for every picture. Sometimes a natural expression is the most stunning picture.
Put together a list of must have shots
When you are meeting with your photographer, make a list of shots that you really want. Most photographers will be happy to take them. During your research save photos that you like that have something that stands out, that you would like to have also. For example, color pop photos or a sunburst accent. This will help your photographer know the style of the pictures that you like.
First look
The first look photo is a great way to capture a stress free and true emotion expression. This is the time where you are both in awe of how the other looks. The groom can feel pressured to give that first look in front of an entire room as the bride walks towards him. That can cause the groom to hold back his emotions or have an artificial expression.
The first look shoot is a good time to take photos that are just for the bride and groom. This is good alone time. You may feel less pressure with less people watching you take pictures. After the ceremony, take bridal party and family pictures. Those shots are much more chaotic.
When you are planning your wedding photography, have a good discussion with your photographer. Make a plan of photos you want and the timeline of the day.
