Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) was a concept developed to capitalize emotional wellbeing in order to make it a source of better recovery for somebody having stress related issues or even physical pain which cannot be traced back to some injury. As of now it might sound like a hypnotic and magical mean of recovery, but once it is elaborated sufficiently it is a lot easier to understand EFT.
What happens in EFT?
EFT tapping is a process in which pressure points and emotionally disturbed points on the body are detected and are tapped and swiveled in order to provide comfort to the mind and body through a completely new channel. By tapping these areas and trying to connect with them, you are basically establishing an energy sharing mechanism within your body where you take out the negative energy from the spots where you feel you are annoyed and fill it back with positive energy.
The concept of this unique energy is a Chinese one, where meditating practitioners say that just like any other object radiates a certain amount of energy allowing it to produce sound and movement, so does the human body, except this energy cannot be seen or felt at all unless the mind is fully in sync with the body and the thoughts are free of worldly troubles.
The Science
Now it might sound weird but despite of how much research has been conducted in laboratories of prestigious institutions like Stanford, no proof has been concluded regarding this new form of energy which is radiated from us humans. Acupuncture and Mind-Body research are both inspired by EFT and are still being developed today for the sake of developing medicine beyond the scope of the present world.
What researchers are convinced about however is that EFT does exist and that the tapping is not just a state of mind where things get better while in the real world nothing seems sorted out. One explanation to this lack of scientific evidence is the Placebo effect which in itself is another mystery. It basically refers to the power of belief, which states that the human mind is accustomed to feel that something will make him/her feel stronger and better. Just as this applies for songs or meeting with best friends, it might apply with medicines too, with staunch believers of EFT stating that unless they practice the tapping they will not feel better.
How to do it?
There are many complicated techniques and entire courses on EFT which have been developed by experts for people who are mentally upset or are experiencing physical weakness without a well-established reason. It involves the location of points on the body of the person who is made to lie down in a position which allows fresh air to enter the body. Those spots on the body are tapped lightly over and over again and the surrounding is made as relaxing as possible for the process to be effective.
So if you feel that the working of EFT is magic, you might not be wrong, but science can certainly burst your bubble in the upcoming few years.
