Even just 10 years ago, the idea of being able to work remote may have been reserved for the precious few. Everyone was using the internet but unfortunately, this didn’t translate into people being able to work from home.
Nowadays, it’s pretty common to find someone working from home and the trend is growing tremendously. It’s definitely an adjustment period for some, but it does offer plenty of benefits. Combine this trend with the rise of flexible schedules and this seems to be the new 21st century trend.
More and more jobs are offering remote options, and some of these may surprise you.
Doctors
You might be thinking that doctors are one of the few jobs that would always have to be in person. This new trend, called telehealth or telemedicine, is rising amongst many American hospitals.
While most doctors have to report to the office sometimes, many are finding that they can carry out their jobs through the comfort of their own home. There are plenty of apps that help you connect with your doctor and send results without having to endure 25-year old magazines in the waiting room.
Customer Service
When you think of customer service, you might think of a giant warehouse like structure with hundreds of people lined up in rows talking rapidly on headsets. While there are certainly places similar to this (have you ever heard the background noise when you call a customer service center?) there are also plenty of places that employ home-based customer service agents.
This can range from those who respond to messages on your computer or ones you may talk to on the phone. These jobs are often perfect for stay-at-home moms or those looking to make a bit of supplemental income here and there.
Legal
We’ve all seen law firms in the movies. Cut-throat places with people constantly running in and out. People are fired left and right before someone pulls out a bottle of hard liquor for a stress reliever.
While we can’t say how true or untrue that is, not all legal jobs are found in the office. There are plenty of account director, analyst, and even judge jobs that offer remote options. These jobs do require plenty of experience though and will likely still demand long working hours. But if you want to work from home, it’s an option to pursue.
Construction
Even though robots are making a big splash in the construction industry, you still need people on the site to make sure everything actually gets built.
While that is true, plenty of construction managers and construction office jobs don’t require you to be on site. This could be part of organizing logistics, running construction planning programs, or monitoring safety. You may need to break out the hard hat one day, but there are still plenty of opportunities to work from home.
Real Estate
Real estate is a broad term that can include agents, sales brokers, property managers, and more. It’s a great business to enter as well, with more and more people are opting for renting instead of purchasing a house.
No matter what business you’re in, you can definitely turn it into a work-from-home job. It might even save you money at the beginning, especially if you’re planning on purchasing properties. You could become the next big real estate mogul all from your home office.
Teacher
Popular amongst digital nomads and expats, teaching is quickly becoming one of the hottest trends in the world when it comes to remote working. It’s not just English teaching though, but tutors and professors as well.
While online degrees are nothing new, many of these involved recorded classes or videos from professors. Nowadays, a teacher can sit in front of their computer and respond to questions or take part in discussions in real time.
If you’re looking to get your start into education, many of these jobs pay pretty well. They can also make for solid supplemental income.
Office Assistant
Are you looking to become the next Pam Beesley? If so, you won’t have to endure your boss’ antics in person.
Plenty of businesses are looking for online assistants, schedulers, or secretaries in order to keep their businesses running. You’ll find these jobs in positions where the entire team is remote, meaning you’ll be the one to remind people of meetings, due dates, and other matters.
