Los Angeles is one of the most expensive cities in the United States. The cost of living is quite high, even for apartments and condos. Still, millions of people flock to the City of Angels in search of fame, fortune, or just a cool place to live.
Despite the high price tag and downtown smog, many parts of L.A. are beautiful, and it’s no wonder people want to live there. If you’ve been thinking about moving to L.A., but you’re not sure it’s worth the cost, here are some positive things to consider.
1. You can get financial assistance
No doubt, Los Angeles is expensive. If you plan on buying your home, you can expect to pay a high monthly mortgage. The good news is you might qualify for financial assistance from the California first mortgage program. According to Los Angeles Property Management Group, some loan programs only require you to pay 3% down through Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or VA and FHA loans.
When moving to L.A. is your goal, you have options. If you meet the income requirements for the above-mentioned programs, you can get your home without having to put too much money down or pay a gigantic mortgage. If you really want to save money, apartments and condos are cheaper than single-family houses.
2. You want to do business in L.A.
Los Angeles attracts a lot of people in the film, music, and art industries because it’s a giant hub for creativity. Sure, Hollywood is filled with professionals, but the creativity extends throughout the entire city of L.A.
When you have your heart set on a career that requires moving to L.A., the cost is worth chasing your dream. While you can’t know if things will work out, you’ll probably regret not trying to reach your goals. If the cost of renting on your own seems too high, try looking for rooms to rent from other people in your industry. It’s common for several people to share a house while they start their careers.
3. Great food
There are so many wonderful restaurants and small cafes with amazing food in Los Angeles. One of the most popular (and most delicious) is Canter’s Deli. Known for having the best pastrami in the city, most people have tried their Reuben at least once and it is unbeatable.
While the meals are great, the pastries are even more amazing. Baked fresh twice a day, some people stop in just to get babka, sour cream coffee cake, rugelach, black and whites, bagels, challah, and the best rye bread in town.
In addition to having mouth-watering food, several movies and T.V. shows had scenes filmed at Canter’s, like Mad Men and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
If you prefer food trucks, there is no shortage. You can find street food just about anywhere, and for the most part, it’s usually good.
There are also organic, healthy convenience stores spread around the city, plenty of organic juice bars, and you won’t have to look hard to find good Thai food. If you’re looking for a high-class experience, there are tons of fancy restaurants that serve unique dishes you can’t find anywhere else. Even the coffee shops, like Boulon D’Amour, serve goodies and drinks with style.
4. Nature
L.A. is full of nature, despite having a reputation for traffic jams. For instance, you can hike through the hills by the Griffith Observatory after stopping at the Trails Café to get a beverage and a snack. The view from the top is amazing.
You can find beautiful scenery almost anywhere, like driving down the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and Mulholland Drive, and there are several large parks that offer vast spaces surrounded by trees.
5. Rooftop bars
If you love sitting on the roof at night, watching the stars and city lights, then L.A. might be what you’re looking for. There are many rooftop bars with incredible views in the City of Angels, whether you’re downtown or on the West side. Grabbing a bite to eat with a glass of wine on a rooftop is a great way to relax after a hard day.
6. Eclectic community
Unlike other cities that tend to lean in one direction, L.A. has a bit of everything, including numerous cultures. If you enjoy diversity, you’ll feel right at home in this busy city.
There are plenty of reasons you’ll enjoy living in L.A.
Whether you’re trying to launch your acting career, looking for like-minded artists, or just want a change of pace, L.A. is a destination worth considering. The cost might be high, but if you’re happy, it’s a worthwhile expense.
