Whether you’re a new pet owner or you’ve been a proud pet parent for years, there are certain things that you’ll always need to keep close.
From rug cleaning products to get rid of unwanted stains to special flea-killing solutions to keep your pet’s fur pest-free, staying stocked up on the essentials will make your life much easier. These essentials will also keep your pet happy and healthy.
We’ve compiled a list of the most important things that every pet owner needs to keep at hand. Make sure you’ve got at least one of each of these items in your home at all times!
- Bedding
Bedding is essential for most house pets. Depending on the type of pet that you own, you’ll need a specific kind of bedding.
When selecting bedding for your pet, consider a cleanable dog bed to ensure easy maintenance and a fresh sleeping environment for your furry friend.
There are all sorts of elaborate bedding options for cats and dogs nowadays. You can get fancy hammocks, large beds, and even mini houses for your furry companions to sleep in.
For those of you who own hamsters, Guinea pigs, or rats, a small cage will do but you’ll need to fill the cage with bedding to make it comfortable for them.
- Food and Water Bowls
Every pet needs food and water. Make sure you always have a set of clean bowls for them to eat and drink from.
Fill one bowl with fresh water every morning and keep two bowls for dry and wet food. Take the time to thoroughly clean the bowls at least once every week to keep dirt or germs at bay.
- Collars, Leads, and Harnesses
If you’re a dog owner, you’ll need a collar and lead to take them out on daily walks. For indoor cat owners, you might also want to get a collar and lead to give them some fresh air each day.
Alternatively, you can choose to get a harness for your pet. Harnesses are safer and warmer than collars. They’re more suitable for pets that are at risk of pulling their collar off and running away!
- Grooming and Cleaning Equipment
Pets with long fur are prone to getting knots, tangles, and clumps. Even for pets that don’t have long fur, regular grooming is important.
Keeping grooming and cleaning equipment in your home will help you to keep their fur clean and fresh at all times. This is especially important for people with dogs or elderly cats that are no longer able to properly groom themselves.
Use a soft rubber brush that has gentle bristles to run through their fur and give them a massage at the same time. If there are a lot of stubborn matted areas, you may need to use some pet shampoo and warm water to bathe your pet and loosen the clumps before you brush.
After cleaning and brushing your pet’s fur, take a look at their toes, tail, and behind their ears. Give them a good clean and scrub in these areas if necessary.
