4 Home Improvement Projects for Summer

Summer is a great time to tackle some of those home improvement projects you’ve been putting off. The days are longer, the weather is better and you’ve usually got some time up your sleeve. There’s a good reason the hardware stores have such good profits in summer, even during a pandemic!

Home improvement is great for a number of reasons. Firstly, you can add value to your house. So, if you’re considering selling in the next few years, you can boost the price with some smart DIY work. Secondly, you make your home more liveable. Whatever projects you choose will undoubtedly make life better or easier.

So, if you’re looking for some home improvement ideas, here’s a few great choices for summer.

De-cluttering your home

It’s not necessarily a DIY project in the traditional sense, but it makes a huge difference. Almost every home has a bunch of stuff lying around that you don’t need. When you make an effort to get rid of some of the clutter, it’s amazing how much room you can give yourself.

Don’t just stop at cleaning out the cupboards and storage areas. Look around every room of your home. You may even have larger pieces of furniture that only exists because ‘you’ve always had it’. If it’s not useful, get rid of it and give yourself some more room.

A coat of paint for the walls

Painting is a great summer job for obvious reasons. It dries quicker! When the weather is good, you can paint any room in the house, open up those windows and let summer do the rest. The same goes for the exterior walls of your home too.

When painting internal walls, you usually have to move a lot of furniture around or even render a whole room out of use for a little while. At leas when you do it in summer, it dries faster and you’ll get your rooms back to normal in no time.

Upgrade your home’s insulation

If you do decide to paint the walls, another project you can do in tandem is upgrading your wall insulation. When you’re completely re-plastering a wall, it’s easy to install insulation batts. If not, you can use blow-in insulation. This requires a few small holes in your wall, but they can be patched and painted over easily.

Best of all, improving your home’s insulation not only helps keep things cool in summer. If you use good quality acoustic insulation, you can even decrease noise transfer and make the home a little more liveable.

Build an outdoor entertaining area

This one might be a little more complicated than painting the walls or de-cluttering your home, but an outdoor entertaining area can totally transform your home. Everybody’s house is different, so take some time to think about how you might be able to create a relaxing outdoor area. Many people lay decking, others choose to pave an area. Then, you can build some coverage, like a pergola or even a shade sail.

It’s bit more of an undertaking, but your local hardware store can usually help with ideas and guides. So, while the sun is still shining and the days are longer, get stuck into some great projects to enhance your home!
