Whether you’re an experienced architect, a home design enthusiast, or a first-time buyer, there might be a time where your inspiration starts to run dry. Fortunately, there are lots of great resources online that showcase some of the best in architecture and design. You can find new ideas, see industry trends or just have your breath taken away by the incredible images.
These are the best sites for staying up to date with the design world.
Architects Journal
The Architects Journal, or ‘AJ,’ is your best resource for staying up-to-date with the industry. There’s daily news, like letting you know who’s won an award or which Detroit Architect just landed a big project, as well as in-depth analysis on the industry.
Dezeen
Dezeen Magazine is one of the best known and well-loved architecture sites and has been for a while. It covers design and technology from around the world, and always showcases the newest, most cutting-edge projects.
Apartment Therapy
This is a well-loved site for architects and designers, especially those on a budget. The blog is full of great tips and ’hacks,’ plus, lots of inspiration from real homes. For those looking to DIY, find creative solutions for a small space, or make a home look more expensive than it is, this is an invaluable resource.
Coffee with an Architect
Architect Jody Brown shares musings of his life and work at this informal blog. While other sites might be better for covering the industry’s news, Coffee with an Architect is a great site to see what life as an architect is really like.
Freshome
Freshome was started back in 2007 when then 20-year-old Mihai-Cristian Micle discovered there was a sizeable audience looking for inspiration online. The site combines home decor tips and ideas with travel and lifestyle advice.
Architecture of Doom
It can’t all be pretty! Architecture of Doom is a photo blog that focuses on the bleak. Many buildings are brutalist design, and some are in a state of disrepair. While this site may not be the most aspirational in terms of “I want to make something like that!”, there is a strange, sometimes eerie beauty to pictures.
The Tiny Life
Tiny house fever has swept the nation, and even designers and architects are in on the trend. The Tiny Life has been featured on BBC News, The New York Times, NPR, Forbes, and more. Owner Ryan Mitchell started the site after moving into a 150-square-foot home, and now provides tips and tricks on how to safely and properly downsize.
ArchDaily
ArchDaily claims to be the world’s most visited architecture website, so it should probably make it way into your bookmarks! It’s a very thorough resource, with information and pictures on every kind of project (from religious buildings to planetariums!), plus competitions and upcoming design events.
The Cool Hunter
What is cool, anyway? It might be hard to define, but the Cool Hunter has managed to find all the awesome, creative, and yes, cool, architectural discoveries together in one place. You can look at everything from John Mellancamp’s New York apartment to futuristic cars, bronzed Lego statues, and sculptures made entirely of flowers.
Keep an eye on these blogs and your creative juices are sure to be flowing!
